Welcome and may I take this opportunity to introduce myself and our program. I am Pam Helms, Director of the Cold Springs Preschool, and I invite you to prayerfully consider bringing your child to visit our program. We would love to have you enroll your child for the upcoming academic school year. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere of emotional security and intellectual challenge. Young children are like sponges, soaking up more information faster than at any other time of life. The neurological basis for all feeling and learning is established during the child’s first four years. During this time we have a unique opportunity to create the foundation for all future learning. The most important element to a solid foundation is high self-esteem. Children who feel good about themselves can learn anything. We value each child’s unique contribution. An abundant variety of opportunities are provided for creative play and for mental and physical challenges which lead to success and growth. Traits such as generosity, kindness, patience, honesty, cheerfulness, empathy, curiosity and creativity are taught and encouraged. Love and respect is given to each child. Our daily schedule includes….
circle time - a time for individual child involvement and self-expression and group sharing encourages language development
language art, reading and math time – a time for teaching and strengthening cognitive skills used in the process of acquiring knowledge including reasoning, perception, and intuition, learning letters, shapes, numbers and sounds and beginning to study time
arts & craft time - a time to teach and strengthen fine motor skills like cutting, gluing and hand/eye coordination with hands-on projects facilitating the development of small muscles and other physical skills
music and movement time – a time for teaching rhythm and gross motor skills like jumping, hopping, and skipping
story time – a time that strengthens listening skills, pre-reading skills, letter sounds and imagination
outdoor play time (weather permitting) – a time that encourages social skills, gross motor skill development, teambuilding and imagination
manipulatives – used to build and involve fine motor skills like squeezing, grasping, honed by writing exercises, play dough, lacing, puzzle, tying buckling, and other fine motor skill activities and pre-reading skills are acquired through sorting and pattern recognition games.
In addition to the structured centers, children enjoy nature walks, science, puppetry, poetry, cooking and drama. Children are introduced to a curriculum program from infants through Pre-K.
Starting in June of 2013, we are extending our operating hours to accommodate the needs of parents. Our normal operational hours are from 8:45 am until 12:15 pm for our preschool day and an afternoon preschool program for registered Preschool students from 12:15 – 4:30 pm. We also offer an early drop of 8:00 am as well. If your needs extend before 8:00 am or after 4:30 pm, please call for details. We heard the needs of the community and answered the call. We work very hard to be flexible and accommodate the needs of our parents. The academic school year follows the Cabarrus County School calendar and runs from late August through mid June. Our four year old classroom students attend five days a week, our three year old program runs 3, 4 or 5 days a week, our two year old program runs 3,4 or 5 days a week and our infant/toddler students attend from 5 days a week. Cold Springs also offers a Summer Camp that runs from the end of our regular preschool year in June until the beginning of our next academic school year in August, with the exception of two weeks in late August which is set aside for mandatory teacher work days and staff development. We are now accepting applications for enrollment for all program levels. If interested, please call for a tour and reserve your child’s place now as spaces fill quickly. The class size is purposely kept at a small number so as to more personally serve our students. Parents are warmly welcomed in our preschool and childcare settings.
We offer a strong program both academically, socially and spiritually. We follow the Letter People Curriculum and place great emphasizes on intellectual, social and physical development. We are definitely more than a "play school". Your child will be exposed to a positive learning environment that will prepare them for Kindergarten.
We invite you to call and visit us and see our program in action any time. Children are a precious gift from God and we treasure the opportunity to be part of their lives.
We are truly changing the world - one child at a time!
